You don't get him at that price unless you go that term though. |

Because I'm genuinely curious, what makes you say that? He doesn't have a track record of injuries, nor does he play a particularly bruising style like a David Backes or Justin Abdelkader, who were both given contracts that likely go a little too long. In 2011, most of what he did was based on speed, but now he's more of a cerebral type that reads the defense and turns low-percentage opportunities into legitimate scoring chances, so him slowing down foot-speed wise isn't something that's overly concerning, either. |

great deal for the B's. I would bet that AAV woulda been 7-7.5 had they not gone for the 8th year |

Don't apply logic Ty. Haterade is being consumed and regurgitated like booze at an open bar wedding. |

I'm hoping this deal drives down the price of Johnny Hockey a little bit... |

He's scored the 15th-most goals in the league over the last five years! What else do you need to see? |

Well, can't stand Marchand but that's half the point, right?
Emerging as this generations Theo Fleury, I think, and the deal looks to be well structured. Nice job here. |

I think Glove was referring to ChrisMS' dumb take up there, Ty.
Most smart fans will realize this was a good deal and decent term for both parties. |

Would much rather it was 6 rather than 8 years but at that AAV you take that all day and twice on Sunday. He hasn't shown any signs of inconsistency and works perfectly with Bergeron. |

Great signing indeed. Guy is a warrior.
Question> you mention 24 mill cap space heading in to 2017... i think you're off there no? my rough math tells me it's more like 12 or 13 mill... figuring the cap stays the same as now. ? Hoping i'm wrong here, but... |

The partial no-trade in the sunset years was a great touch here. Lets the B's do one of those "'retire' to Arizona" things if both sides agree. |

Great deal! Didn't think they'd get him for that low.....but the term drove the AAV down I'm sure?
Sweet deal, hate the (frank)er , but I wish he was on my team!
Good job!! Looking forward to the continued rivalry!
Let's hope Bruiniak doesn't kybosh this deal, seeing as he gives final approval in the league........ |

Great player. Contract a little long but in the end the guy will always find a way to be useful. I like it. |

because paying for what someone did as opposed to what they could do it tough at those numbers. will Marchand be as good at 32 as he was at 27? some players pull it off, some dont. He could Joe Thornton the league and be worth every dollar... or he could start to peter out after a few years... odds are on the later. individually I think this was an overpayment. for a team looking to get younger in a couple years with Chara moving on... its an affordable risk. But I wouldnt want him on my team for that price and term... no way no how. |
